Kanojo to Furudokei / 彼女と古時計 / My Girl and the Old Clock
Lyrics: DAISHI
Translation Source: kimagure
With the radiant smile of the morning sun, small birds wake me
Outside, a flock of sheep and a blue mountain range
Recently I see the same dream In front of the mysterious old clock
The glance of a girl selling flowers startles me awake
Saa,
On a clear morning like this, I look up at the sky whistling as I walk
Under the spell of a fairy-tale like dream, I want to save you
On an afternoon like this, because I want to quickly meet you I doze off*
From the old clock, my overwhelming love for you Fairy tale tick tock**
The sun sets over the mountain path, lights begin to appear within the town
People hurrying on their way home are fascinated by the stars
It should be me who's beside the girl from this dream's spell
My rival who flies into the sky, his name is Peter Pan
Aaa,
On a night like this, I want to go up on a hill and look at the starry sky
As you both disappear into the sky, my rival holds your hand
On a night like this, I look up at the sky whistling as I walk
From the old clock, my overwhelming love for you Roman(tick) tock***
Saa,
On a clear morning like this, I look up at the sky whistling as I walk
Under the spell of a fairy-tale like dream, I want to save you
On an afternoon like this, because I want to quickly meet you I doze off
From the old clock, my overwhelming love for you Fairy tale tick tock
Roman(tick) tock
Bye Bye tick tock
Notes:
As for the title, 'kanojo' means girlfriend, but I thought 'my girl' sounded better.
* I say 'doze off', but literally it's 'take a nap'.
**
a.) This line doesn't translate well, but basically the love that he feels when he's near the clock (or in the clock's world; however you'd like to interpret the song) 'shakes' or moves his heart.
b.) Play on words on Daishi's part. Adding '-tic' like you do to words in English would make 'meruhen-tic', or 'fairy-tale like', but also he's using it as the 'tick' in 'tick tock' like the sound a clock would make.
*** Same idea as **b.)
